Sure 53 An-Najm (The Star)

1. وَالنَّجْمِ إِذَا هَوَىٰ

   By the star when it descends,

   53:1

2. مَا ضَلَّ صَاحِبُكُمْ وَمَا غَوَىٰ

   Your companion (Muhammad) has not strayed, nor has he erred,

   53:2

3. وَمَا يَنْطِقُ عَنِ الْهَوَىٰ

   Nor does he speak from (his own) inclination.

   53:3

4. إِنْ هُوَ إِلَّا وَحْيٌ يُوحَىٰ

   It is not but a revelation revealed,

   53:4

5. عَلَّمَهُ شَدِيدُ الْقُوَىٰ

   Taught to him by one intense in strength -

   53:5

6. ذُو مِرَّةٍ فَاسْتَوَىٰ

   One of soundness. And he rose to (his) true form

   53:6

7. وَهُوَ بِالْأُفُقِ الْأَعْلَىٰ

   While he was in the higher (part of the) horizon.

   53:7

8. ثُمَّ دَنَا فَتَدَلَّىٰ

   Then he approached and descended

   53:8

9. فَكَانَ قَابَ قَوْسَيْنِ أَوْ أَدْنَىٰ

   And was at a distance of two bow lengths or nearer.

   53:9

10. فَأَوْحَىٰ إِلَىٰ عَبْدِهِ مَا أَوْحَىٰ

    And he revealed to His Servant what he revealed.

    53:10

11. مَا كَذَبَ الْفُؤَادُ مَا رَأَىٰ

    The heart did not lie (about) what it saw.

    53:11

12. أَفَتُمَارُونَهُ عَلَىٰ مَا يَرَىٰ

    So will you dispute with him over what he saw?

    53:12

13. وَلَقَدْ رَآهُ نَزْلَةً أُخْرَىٰ

    And he certainly saw him in another descent

    53:13

14. عِنْدَ سِدْرَةِ الْمُنْتَهَىٰ

    At the Lote Tree of the Utmost Boundary -

    53:14

15. عِنْدَهَا جَنَّةُ الْمَأْوَىٰ

    Near it is the Garden of Refuge -

    53:15

16. إِذْ يَغْشَى السِّدْرَةَ مَا يَغْشَىٰ

    When there covered the Lote Tree that which covered (it).

    53:16

17. مَا زَاغَ الْبَصَرُ وَمَا طَغَىٰ

    The sight (of the Prophet) did not swerve, nor did it transgress (its limit).

    53:17

18. لَقَدْ رَأَىٰ مِنْ آيَاتِ رَبِّهِ الْكُبْرَىٰ

    He certainly saw of the greatest signs of his Lord.

    53:18

19. أَفَرَأَيْتُمُ اللَّاتَ وَالْعُزَّىٰ

    So have you considered al-Lat and al-'Uzza?

    53:19

20. وَمَنَاةَ الثَّالِثَةَ الْأُخْرَىٰ

    And Manat, the third - the other one?

    53:20
